Kelly joined the New Brighton Residents Association Board on September 2016 and has since enjoyed getting to know more people in the community and attending community events. Kelly has a passion for building community; in university she focused on urban studies, city planning and sustainability and has taken this education into a career in real estate development. Kelly has been in the real estate industry for over ten years and currently works in product development as a Business Development Manager for a North American home builder. Kelly’s focus is researching and planning existing and future communities and seeking to understand how and where people want to live and how these needs and wants are best transformed into new home design. When not working, Kelly fills her time with family and friends and taking part in the community.

Karen Shopland is the Vice President on the New Brighton RA Board, and is honoured to have served on this board since 2015. She has lived in New Brighton since 2014 and believes that this is the best place to call home. Karen has spent most of her career working with various communities throughout Calgary. Working with Residents Associations for over 15 years, Karen brings a wealth of experience to the Board of Directors. She has been involved with the planning, management, and establishment of several Residents and Homeowners Associations. Karen also brings a passion for community, customer experience, and recreational/social programming to the Board. Karen enjoys getting out and exploring in the mountains (especially skiing!). You'll also find her out on New Brighton pathways with her family and pooch...be sure to say hello!

Sean Vishnu is the Treasurer and is honored to hold this role for a total of 5 years. Sean grew up in Toronto, Ontario and, as he puts it, “had the good fortune of being transferred out to Calgary for work.” Sean was transferred to Calgary in 2010 to open a Central Canada Branch Support Office for Kumon Canada. He currently holds the position as Regional Manager. Working 15 years in the education industry, he was equally impressed with the high standard of education within the Province. This spurred him on to advocate for the building of new schools within New Brighton. Sean worked diligently with the New Brighton Community Association & local MLA to assure the arrival of the new school schools in the neighborhood. Since moving to Calgary, Sean has also volunteered with Kids Up Front, the New Brighton Community Association, & held a position on the Acadia School Council. He has been a member of New Brighton since 2010 & feels pride for living in one of the most beautiful communities in the city.

Viki Cherry is a new member of the New Brighton Residents Association Board of Directors team. After moving around Alberta for a few years, the Cherry family decided to come home to Calgary. New Brighton was the 1st neighbourhood they looked at and after looking at plethora of different neighborhoods the family decided to go back and to the beginning with the community of New Brighton. The Cherry’s officially became residents 4 years ago, building in the community. This turned out to be the best decision they made, as it has been a joy and a blast to be a part of the community. The spirit of New Brighton is like no other. Viki’s kids are involved in multiple activities and programs and enjoy it thoroughly. Attending the NBRA annual meeting Viki got to learn what it goes to running this neighbourhood and simply wanted to help to the best of her abilities.

Muyi has been living in New Brighton since 2013 and enjoys the strong sense of community and togetherness that the community offers! His family is happy to live in one of the most beautiful communities in Calgary and enjoy the numerous parks that are within walking distance from home, the security and vibrancy that New Brighton provides. His experience as Resident Director of the NBRA has reinforced his faith and love for New Brighton as it has given him a new perspective on how the community is managed and the wonderful work the NBRA team is doing to uphold New Brighton’s vision and mission. Muyi has a degree in Petroleum Engineering with a focus on technical sales and business development and presently manages the sales function of a Calgary-based oil tool manufacturer. Muyi also has volunteer experience with The Calgary North Hill Lions Club and St. Paul’s Anglican Church where he coordinates the Community Connection team liaising with organizations in the South of Fish Creek.

Mike is a newly appointed Resident Director. Born in Calgary, Mike was excited to return (via Vancouver) in 2012, with his wife Bella and their 2 sons. The family is grateful for the lifestyle New Brighton provides them, and Mike wants to give back to ensure this is the best community possible for all residents. For Mike, this means listening to residents' concerns, adding value, saving money & communicating transparently. Mike leads Talent Acquisition for a leading North American Land Developer that creates communities like New Brighton. His relevant skills from this work include leadership, planning, project management, communications, and managing a budget. He actively volunteers as a Career Coach through the Library, and is a proud volunteer & participant in the Alberta Ride To Conquer Cancer. His other passions include reading non-fiction and studying/playing chess (nerd alert!).

Sherri Mason is one of the newest Resident Directors, and has enjoyed eight years in this wonderful neighbourhood of New Brighton. She grew up in a small town off the coast of Sunshine in BC and was very excited to start her new life in the big city of Calgary. It wasn't too long before she found herself living in New Brighton where she has watched her children grow and play. She keeps busy volunteering at the McKenzie Towne Revera, entertaining the seniors with her out-going, fun, loving personality. During the day Sherri works as a Personal Banking Specialist for ATB Financial. She has been an employee for ATB for over 7 years. For a number of seasons she has been an active participant in roller derby and baseball. Her knowledge of community values and financial expertise will aid in the development of our growing community. Her love for her family and to New Brighton will only increase as time goes on.

Glen Ryan is serving his second term on our Board of Directors. He recently relocated to Calgary from Regina and has lived in the community for just over four years. Glen and his beautiful wife Charlene of 28 years, have 3 children; Michelle 27, Curtis 23 and Cassandra 22. Glen is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources and is as a Senior Advisor in Labour Relations for Alberta Public Laboratories. Glen has volunteered in a number of activities over the years by coaching football, hockey and baseball. Even though he no longer coaches sports he is an avid sports enthusiast and remains a loyal Rider fan and season ticket holder. He and his wife were volunteers at Grey Cup 101 in 2013, which saw their beloved Roughriders, win the Grey Cup on home turf. Glen is looking forward to serving his new community over the next year and beyond.

Raymond Sequeira is a new member of the New Brighton Residents Association and is very excited to be starting this new role! Born in Doha, Qatar his family immigrated to Canada when he was very young. He was raised in Vancouver and Fort St John, BC where his family owned and operated a local hotel. Raymond moved to Calgary in 2001 to pursue his post-secondary education and is now working as a Senior Accountant for ATCO. In his spare time, Raymond enjoys sports and loves to spend time with his wife and son. He also actively volunteers with CPA Alberta as a mentor to young professionals in his field. Raymond & his family moved to New Brighton after his son, Noah was born in 2016. They love to spend their weekends taking walks around the pond and playing in the nearby parks. The family is very happy to call New Brighton their home.
